Superhighway is a science fiction novel by Alex Fayman, and it is the first book of a trilogy. The story follows Alex Fine, a young orphan who finds he has an extraordinary gift. Alex can teleport through the world using network cables, and he aims to use his newly-discovered powers to topple corrupt organizations and help those in need.

Alex grew up in an orphanage in Los Angeles and always dreamed of a better life. One day, as Alex was trying to fix some cables behind a computer, he suddenly teleports to the beautiful beach he was just looking at on the internet. His adventures take him to Amsterdam, Geneva, and Puerto Rico, and he soon finds that he can also use his powers to read through the secret files of banks and government agencies. As he learns more about his abilities, Alex takes on a Dutch criminal, a Russian oligarch, and the CIA in his quest to bring justice to the world and build a better life for himself.

I really enjoyed this book. The concept of being able to travel by tracing information channels rather than physical highways was interesting. Additionally, the plot is fast-paced; it is possible for some readers to finish this book in one sitting.

Alex is a well-developed character; at 18 years old, he definitely makes decisions typical of a teenager, and it is interesting to read the story from his point of view. He sometimes struggles to figure out how to be responsible with his new powers and how to build human relationships. Unfortunately, many of the other characters are one-dimensional—especially the female characters. Eva is beautiful and moral, Ms. Jenkins is kind and maternal, and Anna is innocent. While the female characters do add value to the plot, it is unfortunate that the 18-year-old point of view is so focused on their physical appearance and sexual appeal, rather than their contributions.

My favorite part of the book was the vivid imagery in each of the settings. As an avid traveler, I really enjoyed all the places described in the book such as Hawaii, Los Angeles, and Amsterdam. The book also depicts a fun fantasy lifestyle as it describes different luxury experiences like driving Ferraris, renting a villa in St. Lucia, and owning a private island off the coast of Puerto Rico.

I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars. I recommend this book to people who like science fiction, action, and adventure. Additionally, I recommend this book to anyone who enjoys travel or likes to read as a way to mentally teleport themselves to faraway places. While the main character is an 18-year-old, I would hesitate in recommending this book to younger readers due to numerous scenes with drug use, sex, and violence. The book ends on a cliffhanger, and I am excited to read about Alex’s adventures in the upcoming sequels.
