We are all superheroes in our own little ways. We might not have superpowers, but we can soar high and help people if we want to. Toni The Superhero is a children's book written by [R.D.] Base and illustrated by Debbie Hefke. This adorable children's book is about an African American kid who's name is Toni. He is a nice kid with a great personality and manners. He has many friends, and he always plays with them. He helps little animals who need assistance or saving. And he also helps his dear mother with the house chores. Toni is a terrific kid; a superhero in the eyes of his mother and friends.
[R.D.] Base is a mother of three kids. Maybe this book is inspired by her kids and their actions. Toni in this book is like every other kid that we know. He is that helpful kid that we always adore and love. He is a great model for kids. They will learn a lot from him, and his story. Like, being a superhero doesn't mean having a superpowers rather it is about helping others, making people happy, and saving helpless animals. And I am sure that kids will love this kind of storybook.
The illustrations in this book are suitable for kids. It has a playful vibe that will make the kids giddy. The pictures are vibrant and colorful; it is pleasant to look at. Debbie Hefke also took her time adding details in her illustrations; it made the pictures look alive and not just a flat, lifeless, illustrations. The only issue that I have with the pictures is the awkward hand at page 24. The hand looks so creepy on that page; it differs from the rest.
I enjoyed reading this book. It's a simple children's book, with a simple story. Yet, the lessons from this book will be carved on our mind and heart. I also love the fact that Toni's friends had different races. That will teach the kids to never judge a person by its race, or skin tone. This book is also easy to read since the author used common and uncomplicated words. Plus, the lessons that the kids will learn from this book are numerous. So I recommend this to every kid who just learned how to read. It's an easy read, with great moral lessons; it's perfect for kids.
I rate this children's book, 4 out of 4 stars. Both the author and the illustrator did a great job on this book. They created a masterpiece that will make the children see the world differently. It promotes a lot of ideas like helping other people, socializing with friends, reading is fun and doing household chores are important. In this book, we also learned that being a superhero is not just about flying and having an extraordinary ability. It also means having a good heart, and willing to help people who are in needs.
