[Following is a volunteer review of "Superhighway" by Alex Fayman.]

Alex Fayman’s novel, Superhighway, is a fast-paced ride into a world of government experiments and espionage. Fans of science fiction and conspiracy theorists will love Fayman’s novel into the vast highway of the internet. Government conspiracies, dangerous experiments, and mobsters all combine into this thrilling novel.

The main character, Alex Fine, learns that a life without limits is not the paradise that it seems. As a troubled youth in and out of foster homes, he discovers that he can travel through the internet one night. He goes on a cosmic journey through the vast network of the internet and discovers that he can go anywhere in the world. He learns that he can manipulate records and download databases instantly. Alex uses his power to create havoc on the illegitimate businesses of the world as he wants to help disenfranchised people. As he steals from the rich to give to the poor, he ends up getting caught in a web of deceit and murder. He also learns more about his past and discovers how he got his powers.

The author does a great job of describing how Alex travels through the intricate pathways of the internet. It’s as if the reader can imagine themselves trapped in the vast network of lights and colors speeding around them. These scenes reminded me of the movie Tron: Legacy, in that the visuals are very heightened. The way the author described these scenes was my favorite aspect of the novel. The author doesn’t describe the technicalities, as far the science behind it all, but the author describes enough of it to understand his concept.

The writing style was easy to understand and not overly technical. The reader does not need to know any specific jargon about computers. The novel was well-paced and exciting. I felt that the characters were fleshed-out and a lot of the action scenes reminded me of the Fast and Furious movies. The novel deals with murder and torture, so for those readers who do not like to read about those topics, I do not recommend this novel.

Alex starts to self-medicate with drugs and alcohol to cope with certain events in the novel. The author deals with heavy topics, such as drug abuse and murder. Alex learns that his powers come with a price and that they cannot solve everything in his life. His character may seem childish at times, but he is only eighteen-years-old. With such incredible powers, it would be hard for anyone to be able to handle them responsibly at that age.

I rate this novel 4 out of 4 stars. The plot was compelling and the idea of someone being able to travel throughout the internet, physically, was something that I had never read before. I felt that the book was well edited, and I did not see any major grammar mistakes. The novel is part of a trilogy, so the story ends on a cliffhanger. I am very anxious to know what will happen with Alex in the next book. There was nothing that I did not enjoy. I recommend this novel to those readers who love science fiction and action adventures. There is also a little bit of romance as well. I look forward to reading the next installment.
