Compelling American Conversations is a practical book written by Eric H. Roth, Toni Aberson, and Hal Bogotech. Ideal for new immigrants, intermediate international students, foreign language speakers, and for everyone around the world who want to speak fluently in English. For them to have an awareness of American culture and values too. Also, it is not the only book in the compelling conversations series. There is more for Vietnamese and Japanese English language learners.

Each chapter has conversation questions, words meaning, exercises, a discussion with a partner about some proverbs, and another exercise that contains searching the web for it. Those activities are clear and so easy to follow, they also engage the learner to practice its English outside of the classroom. It is a well-written book. The conversations are based on American culture and personal life, assuming the learner is in a need to know the basics in order to be accepted in the American society or to become a resident. Hard vocabulary words have definitions and examples to give the student an easy way to understand and use them in his daily life.

What I mostly liked about this book is having a partner to discuss with the lists of questions and quotations in each chapter. It keeps the conversation going, and provokes more detailed and deep responses. As an English learner myself, I used to do this method so I can speak fluently and rapidly. It is a fantastic way to learn. I found the proverbs very interesting, so I took notes of my favorite: "The only thing we have to fear is fear itself," I advise this book to people who already know this language and want to dig a little deeper.

What I didn't like about this book is the title, Compelling American Conversations. The fact that I didn't only find American culture in it as described, but the quotations and proverbs are from all around the world, for example, "Everything becomes a little different as soon as it is spoken out loud," from Hermann Hesse, a German-Swiss poet. I only wish that It was mentioned in the very beginning or in the title.

I rate this practical and amazing book 4 out of 4 stars, no grammar errors were found. I adored the real-time exercises of speaking and sharing thoughts. I highly recommend it, especially for people who are already good in English and need the fluently in their speaking.

I loved this book! It really helps a lot especially and as you said to have a partner to practice with you.
