The Leading Man by Stephen J. Blakesley: book review
An all around good book, easy to read and comprehend what the author has put down on Paper, for my case it's one of the most powerful book l have read on leadership qualities and guidelines on how to become a powerful leader with reputation that anyone would wish to emulate.
The author picks up by potraying the leadership skills such as the presence, being visionary about the future, being a good communicator by chosing on when to speak and when to listen to the opinion of his group, techniques to keep the crew going through motivation as well as being emotionally intelligent.
Stephen says that leadership demands being in a position to leverage the existing attributes and skills which can always be learnt on daily basis, a leader must be read to be criticised and take it positively ,should always be determined to bring out the best out of himself as well as others , being leader not only entails being in front but being in that position and state that other people will strive to reach,
As a leader ,one should be able to capture other peoples attention this starts right away from how you dress and speak ,that is to say the first impression, must be able to apply the best tonal variation that will make everyone want to listen to what is being said, the language must be simple and precise to all the protocols at the same time should be a good listener, listening is a key aspect to any leader .
The author is determined to bring up most powerful and empowered leaders ,he says that as leader you should be determined and to goals set, should be able to understand where he is and where him and the entire team want to go,this is through evaluation to see the progress so as to enable everything is well played out, in the long run a leader should be persuasive and passionate, should be able to understand and others and be quick to give aid where needed.
One way to motivate any team is through crediting we all love awards and approvals ,as a leader , should be able to give dividends and other great prizes to the team so as to awaken them and give them a reason as to why they have to go extra miles in all their endevours .
At times leaders are pushed to the walls they get overwhelmed and stressed up,here you have to put in mind that things still have to work out , Stephen Blakesley "leadership is ajob not a position" a leader should be in apostion to manage what he knows about himself and those sorroundind him, should be able to manage his anger and make decisions when sober and not out of anger.
I have been touched by this book ,it has sharpened my thoughts and perspective on how a leader ought to be,given any opportunity will always rate this book four out of four stars ,l strongly advise the leadership crew to visit this book and read it as many times as possible ,mentors and counsellors should also use this book so as to mentor the upcoming laeders of tomorrow.
