Seven has lived in the same bunkhouse, doing the same job for as long as she can remember. All her life she has been plagued by ‘the terrors’. One morning she wakes up and realises that the terrors have left. For the first time in her life, she was able to sleep peacefully. However, the disappearance of the terrors turns her entire life and the world as she knows it upside down. Seven must now face some of her greatest fears to restore order to her world, but things are not always as they seem.

When I first started reading Seven at Two Past Five, I didn’t really like it all that much. I found the wording to be confusing and I didn’t understand what was happening. The first few chapters kept creating more and more questions without actually providing any answers. However the more I read, the more I was able to understand the thoughts and feelings of Seven who was confused and frustrated about the current events occurring in her life. The very wording and writing that I had not liked at the being actually helped me to gain a deeper understanding of Seven as I was feeling the same feelings and learning about things that same way she was learning about things.

Some sentences in this novel are worded in an obscure way. Especially in scenes where Seven encounters the Marys. But these obscure sentences add more character depth to the minor characters and paints them as people who are trying to hinder Seven on her quest rather than help her restore order to her world.

There are so many twists and unexpected outcomes in this novel I was never one hundred percent sure how events were going to turn out. Once you have come to some idea about whom certain characters are and how they fit into the story. The next chapter and sometimes the very next paragraph leaves you questioning whether or not your thoughts are correct. Usually, I can pick up on the way a novel or story will turn out but with Seven at Two Past Five, I was never absolutely sure on how the story would pan out until the very end.

Considering everything, this story is incredible; it consistently keeps you guessing, and the writing allows you to get a deeper understanding of the characters and their thoughts and feelings. I would give this novel 4 out of 4 stars. I would recommend this novel to anyone who enjoys stories that aren’t always straightforward. I would suggest beginner readers give this book a miss as some of the wording makes this story harder to understand.
