The Crystillaries of Echoland by Dew Pellucid is a book about sounds and echoes. Will is a sound who tries to find his lost twin sister in “Echoland.” Once he enters “Echoland,” he finds out that another mission must be completed first. Will’s echo is “the Prince” in “Echoland.” Will discovers that a “False King” has wrongfully taken the throne and “the Prince” needs his help to take the throne back. With the help of a teacher, Will goes back to “Echoland” in disguise to begin his mission.
Once he is hidden within “Echoland,” Will befriends a magician named Peter. Together, the two boys must piece together numerous clues in order to save “the Prince” and “Echoland.” Will must be careful who he trusts. While some people are willing to help Will, many others are committed to preventing him from succeeding. The main group of echoes working against Will are the “Fate Sealers.” Will and “the Prince” will both be in danger if the “Fate Sealers” figure out Will’s true identity. The story keeps you wondering if he will be able to succeed in saving his sister, “the Prince”, and “Echoland”.
My favorite part of this book was the colorful detail that Dew Pellucid used. She brought beautiful scenes to life throughout every journey Will took. My favorite piece of this story was when Will and Peter spent multiple days in the library. They were trying hard to figure out one of their biggest clues. Meanwhile, the “Fate Sealers” would not leave the two alone. Not only that, but it seems they may have some spies watching them as well. There was not a part of this story that I did not like.
I rate The Crystilleries of Echoland 4 out of 4 stars. The story was very enjoyable to read. As I stated before, Dew Pellucid used great descriptions to bring the story to life. I also enjoyed the multiple settings that Will encountered throughout this book. Although I did find a few errors, this book does seem well-edited. Overall, I would recommend this book to others.
This story will appeal most to young adults who are looking to read a book in the science-fiction genre. There are many aspects in this story that will appeal to everyone. The Crystilleries of Echoland contains some adventure and mystery. Although, this book will not be the best choice for someone who is looking for a romance story.
