Archetypes in the novel (Contains Spoilers!)

As I read Roan, I realize that there are multiple associations with water.
  • Rory bites Conor near the Chicago River.
The Morrigan mitigates the wound after washing her hair in the Buckingham Fountain.
Caithness talks to the river near her home.
A figure in a mist healed Conor at the old Indian mound
Piasa becomes restless in the river after Conor is healed.
The People of Roan can inhabit the water as well as the land.
And so on.

From what I know, the archetypes of rivers are often symbolic of life cycles, lakes/oceans are symbolic of the unconscious and uncertainty, mists are symbolic of what is sacred and mysterious, and fountains are symbolic of renewal.

This is just a few of the archetypes I that I thought about within the novel.
What do you all think of how E.R. Barr implemented archetypes throughout the novel? Did anyone else find any other archetypes that they would like to discuss (i.e. Nature vs. Modernity in regards to DIOGENE in Tinker's Grove)?

From the author:: Excellent questions. There are indeed a lot of archetypes in the novel and I think you might have fun trying to discover them. It is what makes the book mysterious but also powerful.
