It depends on the story! Vampires can get dull after what seems like every author writes about the same thing over and over. Always a human falling for a vampire and the vampire trying to control the blood lust. The back story always seems to be more interesting than how we know vampires and their ability to control themselves.

I used to read a lot of vampire stories. I got tired of the genre because the story plots were very similar and the characters were the same.

I agree! It seems like you can only go so far with what happens in a vampire story. At one time they were my favorite "monster" but it seems like it is the same old thing over and over.

I like vampire stories I've read a few different kinds and I've liked them all so far. Haven't found one that I haven't liked yet.

I am always surprised when I see another vampire story with yet a new twist! I think publishers love it, because vampires seem like a timeless topic. I am not much into the sparkling vampires of Twilight, but I like Vampire Diaries, and also the very old movie Nosferatu- it portrayed a vampire that was ugly and creepy, not the ethereal and beautiful creature that Hollywood often likes to portray.

It seems to me that vampire stories are great if they are done right, and don't lean too hard on clichés. The legend of the vampire offers so much material for the creative writer that it's difficult to stomach a cookie cutter plot with shallow characters that just happen to be vampires. I really appreciated Garon's approach, and greatly enjoyed his book.

I think it was with the success of the Twilight series that vampire romance novels started cropping up. I have read many of them, but they all ended up having a half-cooked plotlines and uninteresting characters, not to mention the abundance of cliches. The male lead was usually an ancient, handsome, gentlemanly vampire who fell in love with the heroine for no particular reason. And if the female lead was a vampire, she would somehow be 'special', with abilities that made her the most powerful of all vampires. I got bored soon.
However, I felt that Richelle Mead did an exceptional job in her Vampire Academy series, which remains one of my favourite YA series to date. But the best vampire character in literary history would be the Count.
Come to think of it, the genre could really benefit from darker characters and plotlines with more of the horror element. You see, I don't like my vampires sparkly and vegetarian.

For the most part I usually really like anything vampire related. But sadly since Twilight, vamps went from the cold monsters that they had always been into pretty boys that they are now in literature as well as film. IDK its just my opinion but I think that monsters need to remain as such and not go to high school or fall into these "protector" roles that I have seen not only in movies but have read in SO many books. I guess I just miss the scary ones from The Lost Boys! Okay I'm done.:)

Vampire stories are exciting stories... they bring us to new realities, to other worlds, and they bring out the unknown in us. At first, I honestly did not entertain the thought of reading and watching vampire stories but "Vampire Diaries" and "Twilight" caught my attention and I started hunting Vampire stories.

I avoid reading or watching anything that is listed as horror. I do read vampire romance novels because they are not scary.

I loved Twilight. I read it when it first came out because I saw a woman on an airplane reading it while I was traveling, and I was completely intrigued by the cover, title, and just how thick it was. I wanted to know more! When I read it, I was not disappointed! I am not a horror story kind of person, but it was imaginative and different at the time. That was my only dive into the niche of vampire stories! Not a fascination of mine...

I'm not too keen on vampire stories, as I believe that I have fallen prey to too many books that repeat cliches and now avoid the vampire genre altogether.
