It's hard to discredit the existence of ghosts since science still hasn't figured out what happens to our soul when we die. So for now, I choose to believe. Not everyone experiences life in the same manner, so why should death be any different? Perhaps it's not that outlandish to think some souls might not move on to have an afterlife.

I agree with you, gali. I don't believe in possession and exorcism for evil acts. I think this sums up my thoughts exactly: "I think that blaming evil spirits for evil acts takes the responsibility from our hands."

I do, however, believe that there are mentally unstable people that may do unkind acts and not really understand what they are doing.

I'm the same way with movies and books. After reading, "Raven's Peak," I will confess that the thought of demons was on my mind for a moment. I started thinking the book made me more spiritually aware.

A lot of people are saying that being possessed by a demain makes that person not responsible for their evil deeds. I don't believe that. I think that somehow they are still responsible even though we can't quite understand that.

I definitely believe in possessions and exorcism mainly because I read an article about it in a Catholic newspaper. I know that Catholic newspapers don't lie so after reading that article, it gave me chills for the rest of the week. I have not seen an actual person that has been possessed and I would never want to anyways since it seems so terrifying.

Personally, I don't believe in possession. That's just my opinion though!

I think they are responsible to an extent. If they really don't want to not do evil, they can expel the demon themselves through sheer might. Some people are spiritually and morally weaker than others and are incapable of doing so. They still hold some responsibility for their actions but the demon inside them will make them do far worse things then they would have done by themselves.

I believe in possessions somewhat and think the idea is compelling. I don't know if I agree that possessed people aren't responsible for their actions or if they should be anyway. Imagine how many people might be in jail for crimes they didn't willingly commit if that was the case?

My mother is being ordained to the priesthood, and one of the first questions my friend asked her was if the Episcopal church did exorcisms. Needless to say, she was pretty concerned about his motives! But apparently we do, but only bishops can perform them. I think a lot of the time 'demons' are a way of describing bad/neurodivergent behavior. Do real spirits exist? I think a healthy belief in the possibility is the way to go. I don't disbelieve in them, and I'll take spiritual precautions as if they do, but I'm on the fence.

I believe there are evil spirits as I have seen people being possessed by one and make horrible confessions after being exorcised (through prayers) which they wouldn't have if they are want to escape punishment. I really believe this evil spirits are responsible for some evil deeds and I feel that it is an option we should sometimes consider before judging or condemning someone for his actions or deeds.

No, I don't. I don't believe in any sort of beings, deities, spirits, demons, anything of that extreme nature. I have had my moments where I've wondered on my opinion of ghosts or life in an overlapping dimension, due to seemingly strange occurrences, hearing or seeing things, but I tend to chalk it up to paranoia and imagination, and that there must be a reasonable explanation behind things - even if I'm not always able to determine what that is. The one exception I have is with "aliens" as I find it hard to believe that in this huge universe, our little chunk of rock is that extremely special. Demonic possessions, though? I haven't found any reason to consider it as reality.

I do believe in exorcism not just because my culture tells me so but because there are things which cannot be explained by empirical method of thinking. There are illnesses which cannot be cured by advanced medicine which exorcism can. This question reminds me of the movie, "The exorcism of Emily Rose".

I liked that movie, though it wasn't very popular overall. I love scary movies, and I think the movie The Rite really freaked me out the most.

Possession is something that has always sort of morbidly fascinated me. I think that certain souls are more apt to be possessed because of their lack of strength, but measuring such strength is not so easily described. I hardly ascribe to the theory that good and evil is black and white, but I feel that there is always a point for people, wherein they either choose to do right or not. That leads into discussions of right and wrong, which I don't want to bring up here, but there is something to be said for personal choice. I think in the end, it is a choice whether you are possessed and exorcism must then require the help of the one who is possessed. You have to want the demon or evil spirit gone for the exorcism to be successful.

I believe in evil spirits because we as humans are made up of energy. Any spirit human or non-human has energy which manifests itself into evil deeds like possession. I believe that the level of possession can vary from individual to individual based on their belief in the "other world".
