Haha, this forum is a great place to sort of bounce ideas around! Lots of great people here!

I also found the ending was sort of interesting. However, I found it dragged on a little bit and was later than expected.

I agree; I kind of like the extra chapter.

The ending confused me but looking at it, this is the unique style of it's great author. It makes the reader to crave for more. This ending also leads the reader to debate with himself.

Same here. I'm not done with the books yet but I'm all over the forum being spoiled. I don't mind spoilers though. It lets me know if I have something to look forward to or not.

I don't think it was a bad way to end, because the way I see it, it was primarily just a set up for the next book in the series, and gave us not necessarily a resolution but a inkling that Haatim and Abigail's story wasn't over yet.

I have to say that I really enjoyed the ending. I felt like it was a great lead in to the next book in the series. I loved the battle with the demon, but also enjoyed the ending.

Aldonsa wrote:I found the ending of this book interesting and logical. Raven's Peak is the first book of the series, so a reader must be intrigued by the ending. I like series where the ending of one makes me ponder what will happen in the next.

In my opinion if the book was ended after battle with Belphegor, there could be incompleteness. There must be some additional information about a dagger. It seems that dagger is the most important artifact in the series. Belphegor is after it. Moreover, the chief demon is after it. When I finished reading about the final skirmish, I thought: "Is it the end? No! What about the dagger? Abigail, you must find it. It is a very important thing!" And Abigail didn't disappoint me. :)
I agree. There must be some kind of a puzzle or question to compel us. Since we have a question in mind with the ending, we will read the second book to get the answer.

I thought the ending reinforced the concern raised time and again through the book; that the demons weren't necessarily the only thing that Haatim and Abigail had to worry about. SOMEBODY opened the warded door and got to the knife first; someone set off the firedamp in the cave. Who that person is, and what exactly Haatim's father is up to, is obviously something that is meant to intrigue us into reading the rest of the series.

Worked beautifully. Brava, Mr Cole :D

I thought the ending was fine as is. Good resolutions to major issues in book one plus a lead-in to book two.

I agree, I felt like it was a filler to meet a page quota. It felt like kind of a let down after the battle. I thought the battle with the demon was a good place to end it and then do the search for the knife at the beginning of the next book.

I happen to agree with the general consensus. I felt a line of dialog could replace the whole last chapter and leave you wanting more.

Their search for the knife at that point seems to be a little unnecessary. Although I think the ending is good enough as it is.

I also thought that the book should have ended with the demon being vanquished! The part about looking for the demon knife and the cliffhanger about what Abigail's fate with the Council would have been a good Epilogue for the next book. I was surious reading the ending in the cave about where the author was going with that. I believe he was just trying to intrigue his readers enough to want to buy the next book in the series. That would have succeeded with me with just the cliffhanger about Abigail's fate! The part with the cave was just too much.
