From the story, Abigail at a point in time is compelled to face her role in a tragedy from the year before. The lesson this teaches is that we cannot run away from our past deeds forever. We need to confront and settle outstanding issues bogging our past, and then we can move on into the future without being haunted by our past.

just as the evil people do follow them and waits for them in the future, also the good ppl do follows them and waits for them in the future.take care of your past so it can be your past indeed,if not it will come back and stare you in the face.

Yes Abigail has to deal with her past, and agree we also need to make sure we take care of 'skeletons' in our closet that never fully go away. But, we get stronger by confronting them head on. I also think a related lesson is shown with Haatim. As he struggles with the grief from his sisters death, he distances himself from what matters in life and becomes depressed. Very normal response and people cope differently. But sometimes we have to accept that the past is what it is, make peace, and move on, or we might miss out on a great adventure.....imagine a very different story if Haatim hadn't accepted the job from the demon.

It doesn't matter what you went through in the past what matters is how the past will help you to mold your future.

I think the real balancing act is to be able to resolve past issues while retaining the lessons taught by those situations. We cannot be dictated by our past, but it is folly to ignore it.

To ignore demons in the past is foolish and should be dealth with when the time and circumstances are right. However, it does not do well to dwell on the past and forget to look to the future. You can destroy yourself always looking behind

Our past is a part of how we handle our present situation and how we face the future. But clinging to it won't do any good because every time we remember it, we fall into a depression state where we always think of what we should have done back then. We will always feel guilty instead of accepting and moving on. It would take sometime to get on with it but that is much more better than running away from it and avoiding the issue of that past.

The book was confusing at first and almost not wanting to continue reading. The writer got lost in too many thoughts to say what had to be said

Nicely said.

Indeed if you can deal with your past then it is definitely in one's best interest to do so but their are situations where certain things cannot be dealt with that we can only prepare ourselves to face later on in life.

As it is clear from most of the stories that we read, we just cannot turn our faces away from the past. We can learn from it and steer away from such problems if we ever come across it again. Instead of running away, we have to embrace it and own it.

Our pasts are always following us. There’s no getting around that. Even when we haven’t thought of something for a long time, it will invariably pop into our minds unbidden. This especially happens if we don’t want others to know about it.
