I never read Matilda but I recently bought the book because I kept hearing how much of a classic it is in children's literature. I feel compelled to read it.Gingerbo0ks wrote:I also loved Roald Dahl, particularly Matilda. I also liked anything by Jacqueline Wilson and of course grew up with Harry Potter. I read anything really, I preferred the fantasy, magic and supernatural more as I grew up though.

The Hobbit was another one I loved. I didn't even try The Lord of The Rings for many years because I just loved rereading The Hobbit.

Looking back, it had a great theme of how you could subvert expectations and still meet them at the same time.

I've read both the Harry Potter series and Number the Stars several times over the years.

The Magic Tree House series was pretty good! I didn't read until I was much older but I wished I had read them sooner! They were very imaginative and well written!csimmons032 wrote:As a child I enjoyed several different series. The first was the Fairie Realm series by Emily Rodda and Raoul Vitale, the Magic Tree House series by Mary Pope Osborne, and the Katie Kazoo Switcharoo series by Nancy Krulik and John and Wendy. I enjoyed many others of course, but these were my favorite series to read as a kid.

AliceofX wrote:Back in my parents day there was this Wonderland book series of folk tales from different nations, so I still had a bunch of them lying around. The Estonian one was my favorite book as a child, mostly because of The Gold-spinners story. Now it's the most worn out and old looking from all the books.
We had a similar set but in Afrikaans, though my parents sold the set when we moved (still not chuffed about this). They were wonderful books with a rich collection of stories I used to read again and again.
