What was your favorite book as a child?

Post by kio »

What book did you read over and over as a kid? What made you love them so much?

For me, I read the Roald Dahl books and the Harry Potter books again and again. The magic of not only the story, but the magic within the story enchanted me and drew me into the characters' worlds as I read them.

My Side of the Mountain was my favorite. It had just such an awesome sense of adventure. As for a series, it would have been The Hardy Boys which I read all the time and The Chronicles of Narnia that my parents gave to me. I had such a great time reading when I was a kid!

I also loved Roald Dahl, particularly Matilda. I also liked anything by Jacqueline Wilson and of course grew up with Harry Potter. I read anything really, I preferred the fantasy, magic and supernatural more as I grew up though.

Back in my parents day there was this Wonderland book series of folk tales from different nations, so I still had a bunch of them lying around. The Estonian one was my favorite book as a child, mostly because of The Gold-spinners story. Now it's the most worn out and old looking from all the books.

Mine were Enid Blyton's books, Nancy Drew, and many others. Harry Potter too, but I read it as an adult.

How could I forget Enid Blyton? Those were great.

My favorites would have to be the Boxcar Children and Nancy Drew books. Which is a little bit strange as I almost never read mystery books today.

My favorite books when I was very young were the Golden Books, particularly The Curious Kitten Around the House and The Quints. I also liked Dr. Suess's Wacky Wednesday. In elementary scool, I really enjoyed books by Lurlene McDaniel and Carolyn B. Cooney, and the series The Gymnasts, The Babysitters' Club, and Replica.

My favorite books were almost every single Dr. Seuss book that I could get my hands on. My favorite of all of them was Green Eggs and Ham. My parents use to read that book to me a lot as a child. I even once named my dog after Sam I Am. Ahhh....childhood memories. :character-cookiemonster:

I also had this set with me. I was not aware of the publishing company or authors. I can only remember Sleeping Beauty, The Emperor's New Clothes, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Alibaba of Baghdad, Hansel and Grethel, and a lot more.

I didn't have those books, but I remember a great big book of Mother Goose that I shared with my brother and sister when we were young. Our mother read that to us quite a bit. :D

I also owned tons of Little Golden Books. A lot of them came with a cassette tape so I could hear the story read to me. That was also used for my bedtime stories.

So many of those too! And they didn't take up much room on the bookshelf either.

Nope, they were as thin as five sheets of paper stacked on top of one another. Did you have the cassettes too?
