I'm with Gravy. I'm born and raised in the south and the best thing to make some welcome is to feed them and give them a big glass of Sweet Ice Tea. Also, while eating you can start up a friendly conversation and hopefully they'll stay for dessert.Gravy wrote:Food is the magical recipe for friend making. Hence the stereotypical 'welcome-wagon'.
We even go so far as to feed animals to make friends with them.

Welcome to the site! I hope you feel a welcoming atmosphere here!Major wrote:I have found there are way too many keyboard-hero's on the net, this site is a welcome exception, so thank you to the membership for making it so.
Hmm..
Maybe the next question for everyone should be how do welcome someone into a group?

That is wonderful that you feel comfortable and welcomed here. This is definitely an environment that has become a joy to visit daily for me. I hope it stays the same way for you!Major wrote:I have found there are way too many keyboard-hero's on the net, this site is a welcome exception, so thank you to the membership for making it so.
Depending on the situation, I would say approaching the person and simply introducing yourself. I would also follow it up with either a "how do you know so-and-so (host of the party)" or ask about their job or interests. Definitely trying to connect to that person.Amagine wrote:Maybe the next question for everyone should be how do welcome someone into a group?
I don't know if I would overwhelm this person with a whole group discussion about him/herself, but I could perhaps pull in one or two other friends to engage with the new person.

I learned from some readings that Indians from the city of Chennai are warm people even to strangers. They accommodate strangers, especially at an unsafe hour. I wish to reach that place, someday.

Food definitely is the secret ingredient. It gives the familywala feeling.Gravy wrote:Food is the magical recipe for friend making. Hence the stereotypical 'welcome-wagon'.
