That's a tough one for me because I have lots of favorites. Which includes Harry Potter, Star Trek, Enterprise, Chronicles of Narnia, Lord of the Rings, etc. These are really very intriguing and interesting. They can really provide enjoyment and a whole lot of creative imagination. There a lot more that needs to be shared and revealed.

It is really hard to pick a favorite, but I think the top few would be the Old Kingdom series by Garth Nix, and then I have to mention Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter, both have radically shaped my life.

It's a toss up for me between the Foundation Trilogy by Isaac Asimov and the Dune series by Frank Herbert. But then I have to add the Darkover books by Marion Zimmer Bradley. Others will come. Oh yes, I forgot The Sparrow and it's sequels by Mary Doria Russell. Oh, and the Pern stories by Anne McCaffrey.

They are ALL my favorites - can't just choose one.

Cleaning up my bookshelves at home and rediscovered EE Doc Smith - swashbuckling galaxy-wide space opera. Remember the Lensmen and their fight against Boskone etc? Great alien characters, good and bad. He was definitely hard on women, even the ultimate heroine was only a space nurse (male chauvinist pig, but this was a long time ago). Still, it caught my imagination as a kid as the tattered paperback copies testify. I enjoyed a re-read - it was a blast! - Triplanetary, First Lensman, Second-Stage Lensmen, Grey Lensman, Children of the Lens, etc

Obviously space opera isn't your thing. Plenty of others. Gillian Bradshaw, Diane Wynne-Jones, Robin Hobb, Anne McCaffrey? Any better?

Are we talking Books? Or Movies? Star Trek Enterprise, Twilight Zone, JR Ward (Black Dagger Brotherhood), Firefly, ...
But my all time favorites are Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel... They were EVERYTHING to me at the time! ;)

Science Fiction got me through puberty. The first book I read was Rendevous with Rama by Arthur C. Clarke. It was 1974 and I did not understand other kids my age. I was awkward and lonely and Rama helped me escape from the kids that snubbed me because I was from the "wrong side of the tracks."

I read several of Clarkes' books and was introduced to Terry Brooks and his Shannara series in 1977 and I was hooked. After that I read everything he has written over the years. I also picked up David Eddings and all his books. Anne McCaffery took up many a weekend for me.

But, my all time, hands down, favorite author is (drum roll please) R. A. Salvatore and the legends of Dritz. I have read and re-read every book of the Dritz series and all the other Salvatore novels. I just relate.
