I agree that third person would have made Alex look better. He seemed so cocky - always talking about how special, brilliant, and handsome he was.

I think this book was better told from Alex's view point. Third person might have been okay, but I liked hearing his thoughts and what was going through his mind throughout the book. I find it easier to connect with the main character when the story is told from their perspective.

I think this would actually have made the story somewhat better. From Alex's perspective we're stifled with his reasoning and Alex-logic and his every action has some deeper meaning that fits right into this. A third person narrative would have been more objective, though I can;t help feeling like it'd be a parent's narration of a child's antics.

'Whine fest' seems apropos. Any change might have been an improvement to be honest. Alex wasn't very likeable and getting to view his experiences from the first-person made it so much the worse. I think third-person or a narrator change would have done a little more for how I received the story.
