It's because it's so commonplace for us to use and see 'I'm' instead of the expanded 'I am'. This isn't the only case where Fayman uses formal writing, however. The writing seems stilted and doesn't flow very well because of instances just like this one.

When writing I personally always use I am instead of I'm, but I agree that it makes the text look more formal, so it might not be suitable for all kind of contexts.

I may have to disagree with you on this one. Personally, I think "I am" is much better and more professional than "I'm". I don't dislike "I'm", I just like "I am" more.

I prefer the phrase I am, because it makes more sense.
