That's funny because my husband mentioned to me the other day that he wished I was a bit more submissive. I was totally confused because I'm your typical American woman from New York so I don't know why he thought I would be the submissive type 
But, he said he meant he just wished I didn't have such strong opinions sometimes, so, now I just smile and nod when he talks I think I made him feel a bit unmanly at times, so is to be submissive a must in a marriage? Probably not, but it might help to keep the peace

I believe that marriage is a partnership but that requires some level of submission from both partners.

It depends on what your idea of submission is. Yes, a marriage is a partnership, but the husband should act as the compassionate CEO that aids in emotional, spiritual and physical wellbeing. The wife should allow him to do so and support him. Submission is not doing whatever he says. How a husband treats his wife is normally mirror imaged in how she acts.
