I love reading about places I've never been! That way I can add them to my list places to see. Also researching them is so much fun!

Reading about places I've never been to is the best. It's one of the ways that helps me imagine what somewhere on my bucket list might be like. With so many amazing places out there, I don't have time to visit them all, even thought I wish I did, but reading helps me travel all over the world!!!

I love reading about places I've never been. My to-travel list is largely inspired by books.

I like settings that free my imagination but prefer some grounding in reality. I've never been to Greece but books get me there. I'm more interested in imagining myself in ancient Saxon territory than running through purple grass under a silver sun. That said, mysteries of the deep are intriguing but I don't personally want to be down there!

Yes indeed, I love reading books about the places I have never been. It's a great way to learn different cultures without travelling anywhere.

I do like books that describe places, but I don't enjoy too much description.
Maybe for a book that takes place in a fantasy world, description of the place helps a lot. But for books that take place in our world....i feel like my imagination can fill in the blank spaces.

I'm constantly reading books that take place in areas of which I'm unfamiliar. (I also enjoy reading books that are set in places that don't actually exist, like in a Science Fiction novel.) What I enjoy even more than reading about a place I've never been, is learning of another culture (as long as it is accurately presented).

Amagine wrote:In My Trip to Adele, one of the things that I liked about the book was the different settings the story took place in and the description of them. The authors vividly described the scenery of Rome, Jordan and even Las Vegas. All of these are places I've never been before.

So what about you? Do you like reading books that describe places you've never seen or been before? Why? What kind of feeling does it evoke in you?

Bonus Question: What's your favorite book that depicts a place foreign to you?

I like reading books with places I never been because it enables me to learn about the place. It also help me understand or have a view about the place and their cultures.

I think you missed a word in your sentence :D it could be "give" or "teach". I also love reading books about different places because they send me to places I can not reach physically.

yes, books create imagination. when we are physically bounded, imagination is free. You travel all over the world in your imagination. Words are powerful, they can make you feel the places, feel their essence. Even if you haven't been there, you will be. Also, you learn and discover many things. Different cultures, different people many more.

I love reading about different places; in fact, it's a bit refreshing when I don't have any predetermined opinions about a location already.

I love reading books about places I have never been. I doubt I will ever get to travel to all the places I would like to go so it is wonderfully fun and informative for me to vanish into other areas of the world through books and stories. I love feeling like I have visited places all over the world when in reality I never left my home! Hopefully one day I can visit some of these places that I have visited in my books.

Yes, I love it when authors describe places I have dreamed of visiting since I'm always dreaming of visiting them all. Yes, I'm a traveller at heart. :D
