Use of songs in a novel

In the novel, there were several songs of Adele in each and every chapter. I really enjoyed these songs and they were really entertaining me so much. Have you ever read a novel involving songs or poems inside it and how did you feel about them?

I was bored by the songs and skipped them. I didn't read a novel involving songs, but I have read novels involving quotes which I liked.

I thought it was very creative to use real songs to better summarize the plot. I wouldn't have done it in every chapter, but every once in a while in the book, I would've used some lyrics from a song.

Eh...I didn't really care for it here. A line or two may be fine every once in a while, but the length of the song lyrics and the frequency here was a bit too much for me.

I have recently stumbled upon this concept, in a romance novel as well. At first, I thought it was pretty nifty, but then found I did not bother to click to link to the music and enjoyed the book instead. Very clever and creative. Something different to try, but ultimately I don't feel I need the music

I don't like songs included in the novel especially when I don't know the tune. It is just a boring one. I just skip it but if I found it entertaining, so I do read it.

I haven't seen many using song titles and lyrics, especially modern songs. I'm not sure the Adele use in this book doesn't count as copyright infringement! I do love quotes in books. The Inkheart books that I read as a child had a quote at the beginning of each chapter (all about books in some way) and I really loved that about those books.

Same here, I just skipped those pages. I do like well placed quotes in novels as well.

I agree with you two. If it's a tune I know, I may recognize it by the chorus lines. However, I'm not that big of an Adele fan and I don't like to listen to music while I read because it's very distracting to me, so I would never go out of my way to put the music on.

I have read many books that had song lists included in them, whether they were mentioned in the story or as a general list at the end of the chapter. I always make a note to go back and listen to the music as it sometimes gives me a little insight in to what they character may have been thinking or feeling.

Although the majority of the songs used in this novel were related to the situation that the protagonists faced, I personally feel that the use of songs should be restricted. The songs tend to fill up pages and often do not have any relation to the situations. In addition, they act as deterrents to the plot, which is often not appreciated.

Personally, I've never read another book that used song lyrics like this one. I think they were used in a way that they enhanced the story. I've read many books that started each chapter with a quote, I've always liked that.

The Witcher fantasy series included a bard who would sing songs and tell poems. I usually don't much care for songs in my books, but this one was truly awesome, as the bard would actually tell stories related to the world of the witchers, magic and fantasy. Absolutely loved it.

songs and poems have the ability to make a book more exciting to read so I do enjoy books with poems or songs in them.
