Reality and imagination could indeed be found in two different spectra. I agree that the book may not be what we would usually call a romance novel, but it was a good blend of both worlds.

It wasn't the romantic novel that we're all used to, indeed. Yet, that could even be a good book-writing strategy in a way, if considering the intentions and corresponding reactions among us, the readers.Scrawling Pen wrote: ↑14 Jan 2018, 17:47 No, this is certainly not a typical romance novel. It does include a lot of discussion about relationships, but most of this discussion is about the realistic struggles and issues within them. There is certainly love between the characters, but it wasn't like most other romance novels that I can think of.

Right, indeed. I agree that it may not be in purely romantic in form, yet it did stir our emotions which means it's a compellingly-good book.ktom wrote: ↑22 Feb 2018, 12:31 I agree it didn't feel like a traditional romance novel, but I was still captivated by the love of Elias for Malika, and the faded love of Yasir and Mariam, especially the love of Elias and Malika. At the end, my heart ached for all of the characters, so that's a good response to a romance novel, right?

I've used a similar classification, too. It's still a good book, regardless.seymmarc wrote: ↑21 Mar 2018, 13:53 I was also shocked to find this categorized as a romance novel. The only romantic aspects it seemed to have was the general theme of love, but even then it was more a theme of moving on rather than love. If it was up to me, I would have classified it as general fiction.

It's also good that Adele as a very prominent figure helps a lot in expanding the book's readership demographics.rcarr13 wrote: ↑26 Mar 2018, 14:25 I haven't read this book yet, but I am not a huge fan of romance novels. This one sounds like it may be lacking the exact things I don't care for in a romance. There might actually be a wider audience if it was classified differently. Now that I know it isn't a traditional romance I might consider reading it.

I don't think it's a romance novel in traditional terms, too. I'm not deliberately going against the thought that it's somewhat of a derivative or a version thereof, though.
