Recent or Old Books?

I like reading both. Old books offer up unique perspectives on what was happening during that time period, as well as the literary trends going on and the attitudes the people had. Meanwhile, recent books are more modern, and show the society we live in. Still, both types of books are written by humans, and have different ideas about how the world worked then. It's a timeless thing I treasure as a reviewer.

I prefer older books but I've started to read books set more recently.

What difference does it make? A good book remains a good book irrespective of when it was released. Any good story would work for me.

I generally prefer new books, written in a language I find easy to understand and with underlying themes I can relate to. I think the topic has the biggest influence as, regardless of how recently published the book, I still avoid historical fiction.

I agree with most people here. When it was published doesn't matter as long as the book is interesting.

It depends on what kind of reviews prevail about the book and whether it is the genre I would like to explore. With new books, it is harder to decide because not many people might know about the book, so you have to take a chance. With older books, you can generally tell if it is a good or bad one.

I like reading both. I have so many books on my to-read list and they all range from being published many years ago to just last year.

Both. You just need a good book to survive in life be it old or recent.

I read both! A good book is a good book. I'd never have read some of my favorite books if I restricted myself to just old books or to just recently published ones.

I love reading both. A recent publication might find something fresh and new. Sometimes older books don't stand the test of time well, but the ones that do, do for a reason. I also like to re-read old favorites, or books that really captivated me when I was a child.
