I thought The Expansion was a good read. I gave it 4 out of 4 stars because of how well the story flows. A great way for me to judge a story is by how much I look forward to continuing reading it. What I liked best about the story was the depth of the characters. I really felt attached to Max and Karis and I cared about what happened to them. Probably my least favorite thing about it was that the ending seemed to happen very fast, like the author wanted to wrap it up right away. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoyed the ending, it just seemed like everything happened too fast.

I see several references to a cliffhanger ending. I didn't see it as such. Max was naively making plans, Karis was noncommittal, the agent at the end was there to take Karis to the Abbey like the covert agent she is. If there is a following book, I expect Karis, Max, Godfredo, and Sofia will cross paths again. These were the most developed characters of the cast in my opinion. I would read a sequel.

This book was pretty interesting, I haven't read many political thrillers but I did enjoy it somewhat. It did jump around a lot from character to character with lots of subplots that made it hard for me to tell what the overall main plot was, however, which is why I didn't rate it very high. I felt that the main character wasn't given enough attention to be the main character. The action at the end was really good, though.

I love the CMTH genre, but I honestly wasn't too sold on the book from the review. :(

I had a great time with this book and gave it 4 stars. It is definitely a slow burn and you probably have to be into geopolitical events and/or corporate espionage plots to enjoy it. Still, I loved the way it was written; every interaction and bit of dialogue had a purpose and kept pushing the story forward. The book never goes on unnecessary detours and that intentionality in the writing kept me hooked.
