Yes, it is! Because being challenged will make you a better person and you will learn from that challenges and then makes you a succesful one.

Sasha Walker wrote:To say that challenges are NEEDED in order to obtain success implies that being challenged is a cause of success. Many people are successful without significant challenge or hardship. However, I would argue challenges are needed for growth. The people who are successful without trying usually do not grow. Take the current American president for example. He obtained financial success with ease by cutting corners and using others. Although he completed his goals he actually degraded himself as a person and is still an undeveloped, unintelligent, and incompassionate man.
So I would amend the statement to this: Challenges are the nutrients that enable a person to grow on their journey to success.
Thanks for giving the clear distinction between the two.

But I must agree that life is not a smooth Road, there are slopes and hills. As my teacher used to tell me, "The bigger the struggle, the greater the success and hence its value and honour it bestows on you". Those who struggling a lot seems to have greater success.
Hmmm, "The bigger the struggle, the greater the success and hence its value and honour it bestows on you". Thanks for that lovely quote.

Surely challenges do help in growing. Challenges are always there to make the world interesting when you overcome them.

Yes. As people overcome challenges they learn about their strengths and weaknesses. From that they can grow and because they posses that understanding they can become more successful.

I don't necessarily think challenges are needed for growth and success but I think that when life throws you difficulties then it could help you develop skills that are needed for success like perseverance and patience. But some people are able to stay patient and not give up without having to go through a hard time. Also some other people have to go through a hard time and they never quite get back up on their own two feet ever again. I guess it all depends on how a person reacts to a certain situation.

Whether or not challenges are necessary for success depends on the persons' definition of success. Tony Robbins commented in one of his books that there was a guy at his seminar whose definition of success was "everyday above ground is a good day". Obviously, there are no challenges here!

Growth on the hand always needs challenges. Without stepping outside your comfort zone you can not get better!

Challenges are necessary as they open up certain situations and our ability to tackle them. Every experience adds to some character trait in a person. They basically mould us.

For any mortal to achieve in life challenges should be considered as a factor. They are natural phenomena meant for humans but they should not be allowed to overcome us.

I think success becomes that much more satisfying when one has had to struggle and overcome many obstacles to achieve it. I mean, everyone face hardships (some to a lesser degree) on their journey towards their goal. But I think those who have had all the odds stacked against them revel in it more, once they've earned it. With challenges comes an appreciation for what you have.

I do think challenges present themselves in life not to make us miserable but to shape our characters (and careers)

Challenges give added sweetness to success, so in that sense I think challenges can really help to drive a person onward. People can succeed in various fields without facing much in the way of challenges, but I think success in the things that really matter always involves overcoming challenges to some degree.

Definitely! Getting out of our comfort zone is one of the core factors contributing to personal growth and transformation. body at rest tends to stay at rest. We as humans are often unwilling or rather, reluctant to get out of our comfort zone so life, the best teacher, forces us to learn and grow by throwing in challenges at us that we are forced to face and deal with. When we are faced with a challenge, we start to use numerous sets of skills, therefore refining and enhancing it, for example, analytical skills, problem-solving skills, emotional mastery and control, patience, strong-will and developing a "never give up" mentality. Moreover, overcoming challenges not only teaches us something new about the potential of our capabilities, but it also boosts our self-esteem, as we unravel how we are able to overcome hardships and gain confidence that we will tackle future issues with such expertise and profession.

We can certainly grow without facing challenges, perhaps through reading or learning from the experiences of others, but definitely, experiencing the lesson first hand and overcoming it is totally different from knowing it in theory only.
