I gave it 3 out 4 stars due to the slow development of the plot as well as its abrupt end.

I continue to rate this book 4 out of 4.In this book I also enjoyed the role Myrah played towards Sarah. The author did it deliberately so that we should confirm that 80% of women normally have soft hearts. See how Myrah treated Sarah in the first place. She escorted her to the room so that she should change her clothes as she was wet another thing she managed to prepare food for Sarah. Meaning to say that she automatically took the responsibility of Ruth towards Sarah. In short she was just like a mother to Sarah. I will recommend this book to others because it has an element of passion and care.

A slow starter, but I'm sure it will pick up.

3 out of 4 stars - Strong Heart was really great but it felt like a book in another book at one point due to Sarah's story. it was the best part of the book to me but then it reverted to the present and the closure was a little cliche like to me...

The story is quite intriguing and valid. I awarded the book 3 out of 4 stars. Availability of characters like Sarah and Tom made the story unavoidable.

I'm going to give it 3 out of 4 stars. I liked the idea of the story and the themes presented. It got me thinking about the old vs the new. I liked the science side about the first humans on the earth. The description and setting was beautiful. However, I did struggle to continue reading Strong Heart's story as I thought it dragged on. It did pick up for me in the second part but I can't give 4 stars to a book I have to force myself to continue with. The ending was also inconclusive.

Some parts did drag. You were generous in your rating in that case.

A 2.5 would have felt too harsh, as I did enjoy bits. I even find myself wanting to read the sequel which surprises me!

What I liked about the book was how ideas can be passed on from one generation to the next. To me it was interesting.

The book is really interesting and enjoyable to read. In terms of writing style, the choice of words and articulation are in good reading flow. With a good dramatic opening, Tom unexpectedly met his unknown granddaughter, directs the story to its numerous adventures. Sarah who had gone to the trip unplanned with her grandpa, had experienced the colorful and action-filled events of her life, discovering her true character inside.

When it comes to the contents, the variations composed the book with diversity, but are interconnected and still made the story intact. The family drama, socio-political issues, anthropology, scientific theories about ice ages and genetic science, culture, traditions and history are substantial ingredients of the story and made the book informative. The writer is very creative to compile in a story the multi-dimensional ideas bringing the examples of real-life struggles to the literature. We can read about family problems like Sarah as a product of complicated relationships that started from her grandparents, and then to live a difficult life with a stepfather. Added to her misery, she was a victim of sexual harassment by her grandma’s current husband.

One reality of real-life issues is a portion of native people’s adversity for their identity and land ownership. This is considered a global issue - cultural heritage of indigenous people against the vested interest of tycoons and government leaders. It is shown in the latter part of the book, how the Buckhorn employees destroyed the atlatl to eliminate the evidence of legal claim for the ancestral park.

Another interesting part is the intellectual divide that theories and science can diversify the people's mindset. The arguments depict the trends of academic variability and impermanence. The writer has a good reference and research of facts and journals. He put the “classroom” in the story - anthropology versus genetic science, an example of good academic debate. This is what I like most in the story. These factors can motivate the readers to follow the story chapter by chapter, aside from the story itself. The issue of personal choice is also conveyed, with Tom's decision not to present the atlatl as an evidence of ancestral claim but to consider the tradition of burying the artifact with his grandpa, choosing the culture over socio-political concern.

The chapter by chapter transition is also smooth and has a well-directed flow of the story, although Sarah's narration was inserted in different scenes. Regarding the message, there is depth, portraying the real-life struggles of the native people, but the meaning is simply understandable. For the ending, it was the choice of the writer to emphasize the credibility of Sarah's story, to have the bear appearing as an evidence of her adventures. He intended not to end the story with the Buckhorn chaos but to have it opened for the new adventures of the characters. The genre of being magical is not completely elaborated, but has a touch in the story. The narration of Sarah during her captivity presented the group of primal people that can be questionable in existence in that location at the modern times, but can be possibly visible in other remote places or prehistoric time. This is what I like least in the story, although it is part of the story to have Sarah learn the ancient weapon and to link the ancient timeline to the research of the characters.

It is an excellent effort by the writer and I can give 4 out of 4 stars for the book because of an interesting story that was narrated with a unique style and useful literature. The different slices of life – family, culture, social dispute, academe, history, putting together in one story is exceptional. The book is well-edited, if not perfect.
