I've worked with at risk youth and I do think on that viewpoint it was a good idea to bring Sarah along. It enhanced her character, strength and personality. Although to be honest since it was with family I do think they should have known each other a little better first.

I also think they should firstly known each other better then they should have planned the trip. Sarah should be more comfortable with them then.

I'm not sure about blessing, she went through a lot! But of course there would be no story if she hadn't gone.

The whole idea is that she could not be left behind. This gave enough material to the story, turning it from a naturalistic kind of tale to a story about adulthood and growing up :)

It was the starting point for the story and also it helped others to identify Sarah's character and strength. So, yes it was a good decision.

Good idea because she discovered a lot more than what her grandpa, William and Myra couldn't have without her.

I think the inclusion of Sarah made the story that much more interesting. Leaving her behind doesn't seem plausible, too. I wonder what their choice would have been if they had some forewarning of the dangers she would face, weighed against her resulting growth and awakening.

It was obvious from the start that Sarah has to come along. I don't even know why they made such a fuss about it in the book. After all, she is 13 years old and perfectly capable of going for a hike.

It was a very good idea. It added so much to the story.
