Yes because he agrees to take care of his granddaughter Sarah as a compensation to where he did not take of his daughter. In addition. He regrets for not being there for her because he left when she was three tears old

He certainly regrets it and mentions that he should have done more. The book does not do a good job of telling how he lost touch with his daughter. I mean, Ruth leaving him and going to Fletcher, is not an automatic for him losing a daughter. He is the father after all. And even with the guilt I think he takes way too long to start building a relationship with Sarah

You have a very strong point.

I think Tom feels much regret. This is seen in his reaction to finding out about Sarah's being put in danger by her step-father, Fletcher, a repeat of his abuse of Becky. But Sarah has gained strength through her experiences and that is partially due to Tom, at least situationally. I think we will see these two grow closer. Perhaps a way for Tom to atone for not being there for Becky will be protecting Sarah.

I think he has a lot of regrets concerning his daughter and even Ruth. As the story progresses, I think he starts to see a second chance with Sarah.

yes he did and that is why in the first place he did not wish Sarah to accompany them to peninsula as he did not wanted to face what he faced with his daughter

Yes I clearly feel the regret in Tom's heart for not providing adequate help and support to her daughter. And after listening abusive behavior of Lynch with his daughter and then granddaughter Tom becomes more furious. So we can comprehend that Tom's responsible attitude towards Sara is due to this background.
Make your ideals high enough to inspire you and low enough to encourage you.

Yes I agree, he can't let his past regrets get to him too much, as he's been given another chance with Sarah.

Hopefully he doesn't mess up this last chance.

in as much as Tom regretted his past life with his daughter Becky, but this time around he did not mainly because Sarah seems to be much wiser than her real mother and again Tom wanted to collect the mistake made.Yes Tom will make a better parent for Sarah
