I think Tom regrets how he was with Becky and will be a better parent to Sarah.

I think it'll be a teaching point for him as he proceeds with Sarah. Obviously, he won't be perfect, but hopefully, he'll learn from his past with Becky and not make the same mistake with Sarah.

That is one of the weak points of this book: We don't know how Tom feels about Becky. The author was too busy telling us what the weather was like or what the characters had for lunch that he forgot to tell us about the crucial things. I assume Tome regrets how his relationship with Becky unfolded and that he will give his all to be the best possible granddad to Sarah.

I think he regrets his past. He will definitely learn from his experience in the past and be a better parent.
