Maybe without Bob-Bob being in the story they would not have gone to the place and all Sarah missing and her finding new place would not have happened. The story would have been different. He is an important character without being alive in the story.

I think Bob-Bob had a significant part in the story. It was his grave that Tom and his gang were visiting. If he were not there then I don’t think the story would have been the same.

The whole story is based on Bob-bob since it is because of him that Tom went for the trip and followed what he taught him at a younger age.

Bob-Bob drives a major arc in the story. He was the reason for them taking that journey, and they learn and develop a lot on the way. When his part is complete, it leaves room for the search about information and history surrounding the artefact.

I think Bob-Bob's character carries a lot of symbolic weight, especially for the further development of Sarah. He is the link between her and her Native American ancestry.
