William and Myra were important characters because they were sources of a lot of important information for Sarah and for the readers. William also offered a pretext for introducing the Russian scientist. However, we were given too many unimportant details about these too, for example, many remarks about William's hurting feet.

The were really important to the story. They added so much to it.
