Lynch I hated..Anjum wrote:It looks like everyone here despise Fletcher Lynch and Ruth. I think that they both are equally disgusting and selfish.

villain for sure. I hate that character.Christina Rose wrote:He was definitely never portrayed as a likable character, or even as a character who made mistakes he later learned from. I don't think we're supposed to like him, or even really give him a chance. I don't see how he deserves that chance. He's definitely a villain in the story.
I also agree with Amagine about Ruth. She seemed slightly surprised when she found out about Sarah and Fletcher's advances, but it makes me wonder how much she even tried to find out why her daughter ran away at a young age.

Yes, she probably was. I'd still like to learn more about Tom's and her fallout. Maybe she wasn't always unlikable?Amagine wrote:I'm glad you and I are in agreeance about Ruth! I think the author should have given more insight into his villains, no one is flatly bad.

Perhaps in the upcoming books we will get more insight into his character and we'll finally understand why he did what he did.fatemeh133 wrote:Although Fletcher is definitely the villain, and I completely hate him, I think I hate Ruth even more. The author does not give us much to go on as far as Tom and Ruth' s relationship goes and he practically puts all the blame on Tom. Then on top of it she goes back to Fletcher, takes her daughter, seems alright with her running away at 15 and three her grand daughter out after a few days! I do not see anything to remotely like there.

Perhaps … but I think I'd only be more sympathetic if I find out that she has left Fletcher. Otherwise, even a sob story between her and Tom won't be enough to bring me around to liking her character, or even being sympathetic.Amagine wrote:Maybe in later books we'll learn more about her and maybe it'll make readers more sympathetic to her.
