Can we say her experience during the days she was away make her the better, or worse, did it help in bringing a closer bond between her and her granddad? Isn't it too much for a child to bear? what are your thoughts?

I think that the experience has to have been good for Sarah because she later uses her spear throwing skills to save the group from Roger's crew. I agree that it must have been a lot for a child to go through but it sounds like Sarah has already been through a lot by the time she meets Tom so perhaps she was prepared for it in some way.

Her disappearance was both. It was good because of the skills that she picked up but it was bad because it was an emotional trying time for all of them.

I think in life all of us are put through different things. Sometimes it seems like it is something that a child or an adult shouldn't have to bear. Yet we do. All these experiences shape us to become the person we are. So I don't think the question is should she have gone through what she did, but how did she come out of it on the other side?

There are elements of good and bad in Sarah's disappearance. She learned so much about herself while she was gone but she was also injured, and subjected to some pretty heavy things during that time. Her experiences brought her much closer to her family (I include all that went up the mountain with her as family, as they were one by the time they came back the second time).

I agree, and I do feel like this experience made Sarah a stronger person. I also think it bonded the group, once the story was accepted by everyone as truth.

So true, to me she came out the stronger on the other side. Thanks

I am currently reading this book, so all I see here are just spoilers. Great read though, almost done.

You should probably stay off the forum until you're done. There are going to be spoilers everywhere.

I think the experience helped her grow up and discover herself. I believe that people grow stronger when they face challenges in life.

So true, Sarah is much more matured for her age.

Can you share your experience mid way of reading the book? I guess that would be exciting and give a new perspective.
