How do you think this would be as a live performance?

As a director myself, I always think about how I would stage a book. Do you think this story would work for either the screen (movie or T.V.) or stage? What do you think would be the best scenes or worst? What do you think would be hard to do? Thoughts?

Hmmm. Interesting idea. This is another one that, for me, would do better as a series, but I would love to see it as a play. There are so many layers to the story that I think it would be too long and complex to convey in a couple hour stage production. In fact, I was trying to summarize (off the cuff) for my husband and actually said: "I know it sounds soap-opera-ish, there is just a lot going on".
On stage, the scenes with Libby would be a challenge. I think the whipping scene would be well done behind a screen showing the shadows with an amplification of the "thwack" sounds. I also think the Lookout Mountain scene would be fun to do, you could great really creative in portraying that event.

Absolutely! I think this book would be perfect for the stage. I would definitely go see it.

This would translate very well for a play. The opening scene with the house would be a powerful beginning.

The story seems good for a movie, I mean, a good director can adapt almost anything (if he makes the necessary changes and modifications), but this story seems "simple" enough for a movie script.

I'm not sure I would enjoy the book as much as a live performance. That being said, if I had to pick one, I would choose a movie instead of a TV show. I think a TV show would take away from the emotional pull I felt with the book.

I think it would translate very well for stage in terms of the characters and settings.

I think it could be turned into a powerful stage play. There's a little Arthur Miller vibe to it.

A stage play would be amazing. I think it would work quite well as a movie too. Though, I think a TV show would detract from the powerful emotional content.

In my own opinion, this story is a good story for a movie. It will make the watchers feel the feelings of the protagonist. They will cry, get angry, and admire her for staying strong despite the obstacles. It depends on how the casts play the roles of the characters in this book because there are stories that are better read than watched or vice versa.

These kinds of books are easier to digest as books where I don't have to visually see some scenes play out.

Some stories are best remembered as skits, most would pay more attention to a movie or series rather than a book.
