The wildest event was Gary having money stapled on his chest, how is that even possible?

I do not question the authors credibility at all. Most addict would very much relate to the content of his book. This book could be a true life story and I would not doubt that because I was once addicted to alcohol and I always had the drive to do very crazy and silly stuff.

Yeah, I think it is based on real life events due to its realistic setting, two worlds colliding and dialogue.

I've come to the conclusion that most fictionalized accounts of real-life events are probably mostly fiction. It doesn't imply that I regard those tales any less highly. The writing itself is what counts, and if it comes across as genuine, I'm happy.

This felt like a story coming from someone who has been so close to an addict or must have been an addict himself. If this is not so, then I must say the author is a good writer and deserves so much commendation. I really loved this book as it capture things that are highly relatable.

Although I personally felt annoyed by Gary, I recall reading that individuals who have been using drugs for an extended period of time can experience emotional stagnation, remaining at the same level of maturity as when their heavy drug use began. In this context, it becomes somewhat understandable that Gary lacks maturity. It seems plausible that the author, Gary's creator, incorporated deeper insights into the character that Gary himself would not be capable of understanding.
