I liked Duke´s authenticity much better, he was passionate and lied with much more intention than Gary, in my opinion. Although both had their issues, Duke seem committed to better himself. But, overall, I like the relationship that develops between the two of them, it´s not that common to find a book that´s not centered in a man-woman relationship, and I find this aspect of the book very endearing.

Gary. I liked seeing him try to find love and grow as a person. I especially enjoyed seeing him evolve as a person by working with the less fortunate.

Duke seems more likable to me than Gary from the way he does his business.

Duke is indeed a very likable character that one will not fail to identify with.

Duke is truly likable and most people will not fail to love him.

I really liked Duke because he knew of his errors and took ownership of them. He also fell into the life that he had because of things in his past while Gary could have made other and better choices. I really liked how Duke cared about others without saying that he did.

I didn't like any of these characters even though they seemed realistic in their personae. Though I like Duke more than Gary because Gary seems to be only making bad decisions and his hedonistic lifestyle doesn't appeal to me.

Out of Duke and Gary I found myself being drawn more to Duke's story. His personality was more interesting and I found his story to be more compelling.

Duke's character is more of a mature 'life's thrown me sh*t' kind of person. He really did struggle to get it going for him but apparently it wasn't enough. I do hate that he had to become a drunk though.

I absolutely loved the first part about Duke and his life. Duke is a very interesting character and this part of the book was fun to read and the characters are hilarious. I thought it was great that he was a sword swallower and I also liked the circus-life aspect of the story. The second part of the book where we meet a Chico Kid is less interesting. I really got tired of the drinking and partying and the roasting of the mammoth from the museum really put it over the top. I also felt like the author depicts women in a negative way during Gary's story. They all seem to be drunk lushes who can’t hold their alcohol.

In all honesty, I preferred Gary. I felt like I could relate with his character on a deeper level than I could Duke. I love the person Duke grew to be and the relationship he had with Gary, but I feel like I can understand Gary's lack of knowledge regarding his true self, as well as his struggle to reach self-actualization.

I prefer Duke's character. he had more depth. I also admire him greatly for trying to save someone else from going down the same road he did. We could do with a few more people doing that in real life!~
