I am on chapter 6 and enjoy it so far. The writing is engaging, and the characters are vividly drawn.

Zombie apocalypse sounds cool, right? Unfortunately, the plot was rather bland. I love zombie stories, but this story wasn't original and shambled like the zombies...The section with the elf was unrealistic even for me, and the ending was weak. I liked the fast pace and the black humor, and I wasn't bored, though. I found it an ok read, so I gave it 2/4.
I read that it's a novelization of a movie. Have you seen the movie?

I'm still at the beginning (Anna just got to the bowling alley).
I have seen the movie. It's a musical and is epic, possibly because of the music. (Highly recommend, the lyrics are extremely hard hitting. Hollywood Ending is great. Personal favorite is Human Voice. I even love Soldier at War.)
I actually thought the book came first, so, upon seeing that it was the other way around, I got worried. It has had some good points; the movie never showed Chris and Steph in the soup kitchen, which I enjoyed reading about; but it's really just a watered down version of the movie, without the best part (the music).
Still going to finish it, but pretty sure it's not going to come close to what the movie is.

At least it is a fast read.Gravy wrote: ↑10 Jun 2020, 21:50 Oh dang. I was worried that might happen.

As I didn't watch the movie, I managed to enjoy the book despite its flaws.

I haven't read any more (been trying to get some masks sewed, and just generally being stressed out).

(I literally marathon read the rest of it in two settings.)
Very similar to the movie, just with some extra scenes. I totally respect what they did. It was a good adaptation.
Still prefer the movie (don't usually get to say that!).
Also, can't figure out why zombies would need to pee.

Sadly, I'd probably have to say a 2.
Maybe a very low 3.
Though, I have to say, the author probably did the best they could, given they were attempting to adapt a musical. They did a good job of including some of the lyrics.

I agree. I also rated it 2/4 as it was just an ok read. I have read better books.
