I've actually gotten quite a bit read (I'm in book 4/around page 80).

I'm really enjoying it.

I am having some trouble with the illness/death/grief thing. If it gets any worse, I may have to take a break from it for the moment. (Still not doing well. It's only been 2 months, so I'm going to try to be gentle with myself, if I need it.)

Here's hoping it let's up soon. :)

I am around page 100 and enjoy it as well, although I was confused at first.

I completely understand. Hugs!

@Gravy where are you in the book? I am around page 160. It is darker and more graphically violent from the first book.

I find it less interesting than the first book. For one, the book is somewhat repetitive. Second, Most of the chapters begin with excerpts from the universe book series staring Avery and Zib, and they seem unrelated to the story. Frankly, I skipped those excerpts.

I didn't like all the murders in the book, and that they need to kill the other contenders to win the crowns. Is it really necessary?? Couldn't the author have found another way to make it works??

I'm somewhere around there, too.

This series has always felt like kind of mix between her fantasy writing and her horror writing, so I'm not really surprised. It's definitely darker than her normal fare. I'm not bothered by it, but I can see how you could be.

I really like Jack, as well of the fact that she's a 'Jack Frost'.
I'm very interested in the story, and it seems to be getting better regarding death/sickness/etc., so I'm still going for the moment!

Horror is not really my genre...

I like Jack as well. She is cool! No further murders so far (I am around page 250 now), so I will keep reading as well. I liked the first book better, though.

@Gravy, where are you in the book?

I am around page 359, Arizona chapter. The story improved a bit and became more intriguing.

Dodger and Roger made a brief appearance. How cool!

I just got to Roger and Dodger. I love it!

It definitely got better where the whole death/grief thing is concerned, but every now and then it comes back. I think that's why it's taking me so long to get through it.

I'm really curious to know what/who the next installment is about (crossing my fingers she gets to write it).

I finished the book! The second part of the book was better than the first part! And, I loved the ending!

That is very good to hear!

Roger has just woken Mel up.
I love Roger and Dodger so much. I'm so glad they make an appearance.

(Also, I just wanted to say that if you find yourself wanting more of McGuire's Urban Fantasy, and liked the creatures in Toby, her Incryptid series is also worth a try!)

I've gotten a bit more read. It's still kinda kicking my but, emotion-wise, but I'm going to try to buckle down and marathon it.

(They're just getting ready to leave Roger's and Dodger's place.)

Finished!

So, either there was a blatant mistake in the dates at the beginning of the chapters, or it was on purpose and maybe Roger and Dodger helped them?
(The chapter where they get pulled over and a following chapter are noted as being a day apart in the text, but is listed as being more than that via the chapter headers. I actually think it's on purpose, as I think they may have helped them after Aven paid them her little visit. It seems like something the author would do, to be honest.)

I kind of loved the labyrinth. I'm also kind of hoping that a future book winds up being about "Life" and "Death".

I really enjoyed this one. I'm glad I was able to stick with it.
