StarkidStarling wrote: 02 Aug 2018, 15:22 I really liked the suicide ending of the book. It seemed to really complete the story. When he said that he gets to experience what he made others experience, a death by his own hands, it just seemed to be the perfect ending.

Then the real ending showed up and I was a little disappointed because it didn't give a real sense of finality. I think this ending opened the book up for a sequel where he joins the Union, so if Gariffo was planning another book this makes more sense, but it didn't seem to fit quite as well.

What did you think of the real ending? Did you prefer the fake one more too?
Definitely prefer the fake one.

I was disappointed by the books ending. Death of agent Silver was inhumane.

At first the suicide ending didnt sit right with me and I was happy that wasnt the true ending but after reading the true ending I realized that the suicude ending made the story feel more complete. I appreciate the author putting both in even if one was only a daydream.

I'm also glad I got to read both endings but I still feel like I need more closure.

I have to admit I prefer the fake ending too. It would have definitely been better suited for a dystopia and would have somehow reflected all the despair and loneliness surrounding the protagonist. However, I would have also changed some other details throughout the story if I had opted for this ending.

I agree. I really like the idea of incorporating two very different endings and I think it is particularly relevant when looking at the theme of this book. At the moment, we do have a choice. We have the opportunity to turn things around but we also have the ability to bury our heads in the sand. I think with this double ending, the author is highlighting this choice.

I didn't understand why Sliver worked so hard to get the antidote, and then after he successfully acquired it, wanted to commit suicide! I agree that the author has set up the book for a sequel.

I'm with a lot of other people, Sliver committing suicide would have been the perfect ending. It reflects his choice to do what he wants.

Suicide was the only option that would have resolved the conflict of the novel. Otherwise the author wanted the novel to be a tragedy.

I usually feel disillusioned by bad endings and especially with death

Call me weak-willed, but I just like the idea of getting a second chance in life, no matter how bad your past actions have been.

With this ending is there any hope for book 2?

I felt the complete opposite. I saw a possible sequel coming, and I saw hope for a rehabilitated Sliver. So when the second ending came I was relieved. I don't think suicide is ever the answer.
