That would be easy to subtitle. I would love to see this as a miniseries, akin to "Outlander."

I can see this being an interesting movie also - or maybe even a tv show depending on how long the series goes.

I don't think the languages will be any problem when they are adapting it into a movie, rather it would make it original.

Where did you read that Vikings predominantly spoke English? Old Norse was their primary language.
I was referring to the TV series Vikings. It made it clear to the audience that the different lands were speaking different languages, but the show was done in English for the audience, instead of them having to use subtitles. So I was saying the different languages for this book wouldn't be an issue. There are ways to make it work.
My apologies! I had no idea that you were referring to the TV show. I caught a few episodes of it and it seemed pretty good. It is a great example of using English but pretending they are speaking in many native tongues.

I think there are books best to leave as a book, and others can be adapted into a movie, but this is doable with great screenplay and adaptation. Hmm,, why not.

Indeed the language is the only problem, otherwise it can be adapted into an interesting movie.

With the numerous subplots included in this story, I think it would make a good mini-series.

Apollo's Raven would make a great movie. I don't see language as a barrier here. Language wasn't a barrier to movies like Vikings, Game of Thrones, etc. Notwithstanding, subtitles could make up for interpretation to reach a wide range of races.

AliceofX wrote: 01 Sep 2018, 22:15 It seems I should have been more specific. What I meant with the language issue is that there are scenes where, for example, Catrin and Marcellus are speaking in Latin then some one else comes along and Catrin speaks to them in Celtic. How would you accurately portray that in a movie where you can't just say, "She spoke to them in Celtic," or, "Marcellus didn't understand what the Celts were saying."
I think in this aspect they could either use subtitles for scenes such as this. Another option would be to have whoever is walking into their conversation act as though they cannot understand what they are saying. Overall I think they could adapt this into a movie and I think it would be a great movie.

The language aspect can be worked around. Other than that I think it would make a great movie.

The movie industry is able do really awesome stuff. I can see this being a really good movie adaptation akin to The Prince of Egypt or even Wonder Woman. Language is never a barrier as long as there are subtitles.

It is an interesting book, so I think it could be adapted into a movie. But, there are a lot of things going on in this book and they might cut a lot of good stuff when they turn this into a film. Which is sad.

I'm not sure why this question is asked as often as it is. Almost anything can be adapted into a movie. (If you don't believe me just take a gander at the film Adaptation, based on the nonfiction book The Orchid Thief.) The real question is if there is a market for such a film and if it can be done successfully given what the appropriate budget level would be. Frankly, I don't see much of a market out there for a film like this.
