I think that is the character that the writer created to strengthen the story or make the story more interesting and tense!

Love a bit of shapeshifting thrown into a novel! It's such a common mysticism seen in almost every culture so I honestly don't find it to be so far out of place.

I thought the shapeshifting into a wolf worked well with the storyline and especially with the traits of the character involved. He was a bit of a "wolf in sheep's clothing" anyway, so the changing into a wolf was a great fit for him.

I really liked the surprise element of shapeshifting and I think it added to the charm and mysticism of the book.

I think shape-shifting is cool, it gives an added twist to a story!

I think it was well done. I could have lived without the scene where Marrock mates with another wolf, though. Erotica is cringey enough, but animal erotica...no thank you.
There is no frigate like a book
To take us lands away,
Nor any coursers like a page
Of prancing poetry.
This traverse may the poorest take
Without oppress of toll;
How frugal is the chariot
That bears a human soul!

The shapeshifting element surprised me honestly. I felt that that made the book have a fantasy touch. It's okay, just was not expected.

Do you think this element of shapeshifting is properly tied into the story or does it detract from the overall novel? Does it support the aura of mysticism the author is trying to convey or does it make it too much like any other fantasy novel?
To me, I didn't like the idea of Catrin's brother's shape-shifting.
