No I don't think Apollo's Raven is a war against fate. True love surpasses all difficulties.The love and romance between Marcellus and Catrin is so deep that makes me to disagree with your point of view.

I agree that the major theme of the book seems to be a war against fate. This is especially shown by the prophecy engraved on the dagger. Catrin seems to be warring against her destiny which she is desperately trying to change. We shall see if her attempts to change the threads of fate will be successful.

I truelly agree Apollo's Raven is war against fate but I think Catrin and Marcellus should fight for what they believe in.

Well, if you mean fate as star crossed lovers whose union is not wanted by any of their people , then yes, it is them against fate

Yes, it is a war against fate. The book is a story about two star crossed lovers who find some unexplained attraction between them, knowing that their respective families and nations will accept anyone but their true love.

I like the idea of a war against fate. I think that sums up this series pretty well. And even though Catrin has the ability to change the threads of someone's future on the Wall of Life, she finds that she cannot prevent death in that way, so she takes action in reality to throw fate off course.
There is no frigate like a book
To take us lands away,
Nor any coursers like a page
Of prancing poetry.
This traverse may the poorest take
Without oppress of toll;
How frugal is the chariot
That bears a human soul!

I love this as an alternative title, it certainly seems apt not only of the main characters but so many sub plots as well.

This is quite an overused narrative, two lovers from opposite nations or families (like Romeo and Juliet), that battle their society and their views. But I have to say I like it.
War against fate is a nice way to describe Apollo's Raven, after all they are fighting so that a prophecy doesn't became reality.

The story reminded me of 'Romeo and Juliet'. I don't think this story would end in a tragedy, but I do sense a lot of drama and suspense arising.
Memories are dangerous things. You turn them over and over, until you know every touch and corner, but still you'll find an edge to cut you.― Mark Lawrence, Prince of Thorns
