Being that most books have some element of romance, I would classify this as historical fantasy, since the elements that set it apart are the historical and fantastical elements.

Amazon listed this book under historical fantasy and myths but with the romantic elements of it, it's safe to it's a romance fantasy
Feeling upset sometimes may be unavoidable, but acting distressed is always optional.

I think it is combination of historical romance and magical fantasy.

I like that a lot of the facts of life are actually accurate, but I think the main theme of the book is forbidden love.
I think that the average romance reader would pick up this book and be disappointed. I love romance and fantasy, but I don't think that this book fits the bill for romance as the relationship never got the foundation it deserved and the "romantic" scenes were absolutely cringe-worthy.
I agree that this book would disappoint many Romance readers. It's not steamy enough. But I still enjoyed it.

This book would be in the fantasy section of a library or bookstore, the romance in it is not the most significant feature. I wouldn't call it a historical fiction either, it's a fantasy story set in the past.

It's historical fantasy. YA fantasy, in fact. It is not a romantic novel cause the book doesn't focus on romanticism at all...

I could say that Apollo's Raven has considerable tie-ups to myths and legends. The historicity of the events as well in parallel to what is recorded history. Historical Fiction with fantasy and romance would be an apt description.

Or should it be categorized as Fantasy with strong elements of history, romance, or myths and legends?
I agree completely that this is really an adult book set in a historical time period rather than historical fiction with fantasy. I did not expect the novel to be what it was.

I think there is definitely historical elemen to this novel. However I do think it is more of a fantasy than a historical novel

The book definitely crosses genres, but if I had to pick just one, I would put it in the fantasy genre. While there is certainly romance in the book, I don't see it as the main theme.

I would say it fits under more of a fantasy novel than historical fiction. With added bits of romance and history.

I actually commented on genre in my review. I feel it's more aligned with fantasy than historical fiction, despite the historical elements. My husband is a huge fantasy fan, where I'm more likely to choose historical fiction, and the whole time I was reading the book I was thinking it was more suited to him! As far as a young adult read, the sexuality and gruesome ritual scene take it out of that category for me. It does remind me of books for younger readers though; the Percy Jackson series for one. May I add that it's fabulous to have a published author discussing her book in an open forum:)

I thought that this book is historical fiction, but it is more of a historical fantasy with a bit of romance. Interesting.

I thought this book was more of a romance novel with supernatural elements. It had historical themes but I thought it was a romance above all the other storylines

I would mostly put it on romantic fanatasy. But maybe the book is mainly directed towards history. In either way, I love it.
