I have heard that definition in other places. But I think the author is trying to get people who think they can't change their habits or life to actually do it. I'm just not sure if everyone will respond positively or sink deeper.

Doing the same thing might give different results when circumstances change. For example, if a certain business failed due to sociopolitical restrictions, it might thrive under a different regime, without any changes to the business structure itself.

Expecting different outcomes with the same actions isn't insanity but rather hope or wishful thinking when stuck in an unchangeable circumstance.

In Medicine, what people often refer to as 'insanity' is called psychosis. Psychosis is a behavioral disturbance marked by hallucinations, delusions, and/or grossly disorganized behavior. A delusion is defined as a fixed, false belief that members of one's cultural group do not hold. So looking at the quote, doing the same thing over and over again (in the same initial conditions) and expecting different results each time can very well be described as insanity. That pattern of thinking seems to suggest an impairment of both logical thinking and reasonable behavior.

True. You can’t keep hitting your head on a wal and expect it not to hurt

Or a dog chasing it’s tail for example, it keeps going in circles but sees no result

If the definition of insanity is to keep trying the same thing while expecting a different result, I think that seems like great advice to keep in mind.

I agree, it is ridiculous that we expect a different result from doing the exact same thing.

I agree with the writer. Doing same things, the exact same way and expecting different results is a type of insanity.
