Why Ghostface?

As the author had a hand in designing the mask, it is natural that he tried to reclaim it in a way in this book. Moreover, the cover does fit the plot. So I think it was a win-win situation for the author.

Personally when i'm in a hurry to buy a book I do base it purely on the front cover (this is how I came to read twilight).

It also brings in a couple of red herrings to the book. So it is very well thought out by the author

According to the author's bio on Amazon, he helped create/design the mask. It makes sense that he would use what might be his most widely known design. Even though it is primarily associated with the Scream franchise, I don't know that the author could get the same reaction with a different cover. Or maybe he is trying to reclaim it in some way?

I read that as well, though I haven't picked up the book. I was curious about how well he tied the mask design to an unrelated novel!

That's what I expected to see in the book too. Some connection to the Scream franchise. But, I think, overall, it helped the book overall.

You shouldn’t judge a book by it’s cover, but many of us still do. I think whether the “ghost face” image helps the book or not depends on your familiarity and/or like/dislike of the Scream movies.

I think the cover fits fine. Not only fine rather it was to catchy and amazing. It defines the book at it's best!

The cover definitely sounds like it is misleading and is probably putting a lot of people off reading it.

I don't know anything about the Scream series, but I think if this book doesn't have any tie-in with the movie, the cover should have been different, so as not to disappoint fans of the series or scare away those not into the horror genre.

Oh, I have definitely done the same thing! I am very guilty of choosing books by their cover art first and then being drawn in from the blurb. We're all slaves to shiny objects sometimes!

I think the author was trying to capitalize on the association that the mask has with those movies since they are so recognizable. It can be misleading to those people who automatically assumed it had to deal with the movies but for me, it wasn't a turnoff.

No, I do not believe that this book ties in with the movie. I feel that Ghost Face is just the latest fad in the horror world such as Jason and Michael Myers once were. I also think that it could have been any type of mask and it would have still fit with the title but the illustration shows it to be Ghost Face and I think that it is just something more recognizable for people to relate to.

That's really interesting! If he did help to create it then I can understand why he'd use it for the cover, even if it is tied to a different franchise it's also a part of him in a way

I talked about this on a different topic but the usage of the Ghostface originally drew me in and made me want to read the book, because I enjoy horror but I do think it’s potentially misleading as I did think it might have had something to do with the Scream franchise, or just generally that it would be more used

Personally, it crossed my mind that the Scream movies and this book might be connected, but that quickly evaporated when I started reading it. It didn't persuade me to read this book though.
