I think what the author did was ok. Just enough information to her but not enough light on her to jump to the reader's mind as a suspect. Kept the suspense.

I think that was a skill employed by the author to bring in suspense. It was nice he kept her information limited.

Not telling his background story help to keep the readers in suspense.
