It is clear that the father really cared for Debbie. While he may have been a little overprotective, he had her best interests in mind. He is overall a very good father.

I suppose since his daughter sees him as a good father, I must consider him one too. It seems he stayed present in her life and essentially raised her. So, I don't know how he could not be called a good father.

Well, a well-developed character can never be boxed into being good or bad. I felt that William was a pretty good father. I mean he risked his life for her.

for me it's obvious that William Lance was a good father. for a divorced man like him its not easy to be so nice to his daughter after what had happened to him

The fact that Deborah still loves spending time with her father, and the good rapport the two of them seem to have, indicates that William Lance is a very good dad. He keeps track of her in a caring, concerned way, makes time for her and is a wonderful provider. The fact that he keeps an eye on the ferry as it is departing also indicates a man very devoted to his daughter.

We all have flaws that people tend to define us by, the same thing with Lance. However, that doesn't mean we do not have goodness in us. The constant need to know his daughter's welfare qualifies him as a good father.

Being a single parent is tough, but, William Lance was there for his daughter in every way, through every challenge of teenage years. That is definitely a good father.

Lance was a busy man, but still kept in touch with his daughter everyday. That's a good dad definitely

I agree with other readers that while he may not have been perfect, his consistent involvement in the life of his daughter (emotional presence if not always 100% physical presence) as well as his risking his life for her makes him a pretty darn good dad.

Yes, I think that somehow, in his own strange way he is a good father. I would feel smothered by such frequent phone calls.

I think William Lance is a good father. No one is perfect. He is only trying to be there for his daughter because the toll divorce can take on a little girl is unimaginable. You can call him overprotective but the fact remains that he is all his daughter got left.

Yes, he is. Fathers may make mistakes, but they love their kids so much, especially their daughters.
