I am not surprised. Just another caring father.

It is quite natural for a father to suspect foul play when his daughter disappears. Else, the alternative would be that she deliberately chose to disappear. I do not think that any caring father would believe that. I think that this may be the reasoning behind William's assumption.

Just like most of the other reviewers, I would chalk it up to fatherly instincts.

Father can think that way with some reasons.
(1) the type of friends he lived with.
(2) the character of the daughter.Just to name but a few

Next, they already had an established routine of communicating every so often each day, therefore, her silence, coupled with the call from Debbie's friend, Patty, about never meeting up with her, was enough to raise the foul-play-theory hairs on his back.
I agree with you. I would have grown suspicious as well. But, I think he is overprotective and bound to grow suspicious if any event did not take place as planned. It is all about a father's instinct and love for his daughter!

I think it's just logical reasoning and instincts.

Typical father response. My father suspects foul play when I don't pick up the phone, so I wasn't really surprised.

I think it was that instinct of a good father.

I thought so too.
