The feeling of guilt would have come in for anyone because of how Tim got involved in the case. However, I will be able to give my full comment on this when I will have read the entire book.

I don't think that Paul was guilty after Tim's death.

I do think that Paul felt a little guilty, I mean who wouldn't? He brought Tim in for help in the first place. However, I don't think he entirely blamed himself for Tim's death, because his words and actions are what got him into trouble.

Though the author did not dwell on Paul's guilt, I think Paul must have felt guilty even a bit.

Not according to his character's portrayal in the book, he didn't seem so guilty. But, logically, he must have felt some remorse over the whole situation.
