Madison

Does anyone else think that Madison could have had more background on her? Or was it beneficial to keep knowledge as limited as possible to keep her as a surprise twist?

I'd say it was a good idea not to spill the beans so as to maintain the suspense in the story.

Missing her background story about him did the book great help in the creation of suspense.

I would have appreciated more background on her but I guess it was the author's plan to keep the information on her limited so that we didn't pin her as a suspect at all. In my opinion, it worked well.

Quite true. The book had enough to details to go by anyway.

Being a suspenseful book, it was just as well that Madison was a mysterious character as the story went by. Adds to the thrill of trying to uncover who she really is.

I thought the author did a good job of not revealing the identity of the killer. If more had been revealed about Madison, readers would have become suspicious of her sooner.

I think the more we knew about Madison the less sense the book made. Bud couldn't figure out the body shape of a dancer was different than his partner or other large males. If the author described Madison to the extent he did Port Jefferson, no one would believe the reveal.

I think the author did right by keeping her a mystery. The less the information about her, the less the suspicion of her as the suspect.

Suspense works for the plot of the story and giving more background information about her would mark her as the suspect.

I think it was intentional not writing much on Madison, it makes the reader keep reading and keeps the suspense alive.

There were lots of characters in the story. He can't give background detail on all of them. So, I think limiting details on Madison's background was okay as long as the reader understands her character.

I think just illustrating her strong sense of protection for her sister (in several instances) was enough to lay the groundwork. And mentioning her as a dance instructor a few times hinted at the way her build and agility might play out later in the book.
